Append-only
Generated media is appended to product media. Existing images are never replaced as a side effect of a publish.
Rollback as one operation
Each publish records exactly what it wrote, so it can be reverted in a single action rather than cleaned up by hand.
Variant media is gated
Setting a variant image is the one write that can replace merchant photography, so it requires its own explicit confirmation.
